Interviewing Children and Youth 2025: Sec 715.1 of the Criminal Code & Trauma-Informed Best Practice

Facilitators Winston Sayson (retired) and Sara Hopkins from BC Prosecution Service provided an overview of Section 715.1 of the Criminal Code and guidance on trauma-informed practice when interviewing children and youth. This workshop is a foundational training module for the entire MDT, so that all team members have a strong understanding of what is needed to support a trauma-informed statement from a child.

Trauma Informed Practice at CYACs: MDT Strategies for Safe & Supportive Care

This workshop was developed by a working group from across disciplines and centres and gives practical guidance for implementing trauma-informed practice across the multi-disciplinary team in child and youth advocacy centres.

Privacy and Information Sharing in the Context of CYACs

Privacy experts from the office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner, Ministry of Children and Family Development, and the BC Network outline the various legislations that CYAC multidisciplinary team members fall under, and how information sharing is conducted in a legal and ethical way during management of a case. This workshop is meant for all MDT members and can be supplemented with an in-person session for your CYAC.

BC Network of CYACs Practice Principles

BC Network of Child and Youth Advocacy Centres, 2022 – The BC Practice Principles were developed to guide the practice of individuals and teams and to ensure that the services provided with the CYAC model are consistently conducted across the province. It is recognized that in practice, these principles may be adapted differently depending on the size and geographic region and the resources and partnerships of the CYAC community. However, it is expected that each CYAC will strive to implement these practice principles in the spirit in which they are intended, which is to support evidence-based practice that meets the unique needs of children and youth.

National Standards of Accreditation for Child Advocacy Centres

National Children’s Alliance, 2025 – The Standards for Accreditation for Children’s Advocacy Centers represent the evidence-supported core competencies of the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) model. The Standards seek to balance the goal of serving greater numbers of children and families with the critical need to sustain the integrity of the CAC model and its associated professional credibility.

National Optional Standards of Accreditation for Child Advocacy Centres

National Children’s Alliance, 2023 – This manual outlines the three new optional standards for both new and existing Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) seeking National Children’s Alliance (NCA) accreditation. Each of NCA’s three additional option standards are addressed individually in this manual, and includes a stated rationale, as well as a statement of intent for all specific criteria that must be met. This manual also contains examples of implementation that are reflective of the diversity of CACs.
